I have always been interested in the origins of my
family, but it wasn’t until 1991 when I visited a local
plantation in North Carolina that I became an active
genealogist. I can't seem to get enough genealogy
that I traveled at least a dozen times to Salt Lake City,
Utah to their Family History Library, the Mecca for
genealogists!
Soon after receiving an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration 1994, I began a series of
enjoyable endeavors. I became a charter member of the “Preservation Renaissance of
Independence, Missouri”. I was immediately enthralled with all my hometown’s history and older
homes that I became the editor of the quarterly newsletter, Preservation Press. I even started my
own monthly feature called “The House of the Month” where I interviewed families about their older
homes, researched and wrote the genealogy of the past occupants.
Having found a love of tea, in 2001 I founded and directed “Dallas Ladies Tea Society”. We shared
monthly Afternoon Tea while I spoke of tea, its history and etiquette, antiques or other historical
topics. I began to speak at garden, herbal societies and other groups for women. During this time I
also wrote and edited my own quarterly newsletter, Texas Tea Times. I kept my ladies abreast of
the latest in tea, its health concerns and the different types of tea. My articles were informative and
pleasurable. The newsletter was full of information from antiques to fashions from the past.
During this time I also attended many lectures at Mid-Continent Public Library, now known as
Midwest Genealogy Center (MGC), in Independence, Missouri. These lectures included Beginning
Genealogy, Understanding the Censuses, Online at Mid-Continent, and many others.
I also volunteer at the Jackson County, Missouri Genealogical Society whenever I can.
At the Dallas Genealogical Society (DGS) I have been the Publicity Director for the past two years
and work on various projects that need help. I have attended their lectures at monthly meetings
since 1991 and have participated in their 1995 Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) Regional
Conference and their Annual Summer Institutes. DGS hosts many professional genealogists which
gives me a much learned advantage. Lectures Series I have attended are Passenger and
Immigration Records, Naturalization Records, Military Records, Government Documents, Deed
Records, Land Records, Probate Records, to name a few.
I am a member of National Genealogical Society (NGS) and eagerly attend their annual conferences.
I have attended Kansas City Conference in 2008 and the Raleigh Conference in 2009.
I am also a member of America Professional Genealogists (APG) and the local Chapter APG-
Heartland. Currently we are studying the manual, “Professional Genealogy: A Manual for
Researchers, Writers, Editors, Lecturers, and Librarians” edited by Elizabeth Shown Mills.
I will be attending Institute of Genealogy & Historical Research at Samford University this June. The
institute is academically and professionally oriented and is cosponsored by the Board for
Certification of Genealogists (BCG).My long term goal is to become a certified genealogist which is
governed by the BCG.
I have attend several courses for Family History Writing and have written three articles for DGS
newsletter including "Orville, Wilbur, and Elmer", "Were Your Irish Ancestors Flax Farmers", and
"Legend Seekers".
Now I have decided to share my expertise of many years of genealogy research. My research
specialties’ includes Missouri, the Midwest and most states along the national road. See My
Services for map. Putting my skills to work for you would be another “pleasurable endeavor.”
So why don’t you give me a call
and
let’s see what I can do for you?
